One way to tell if your friend's 'free' email account ahs been hacked... - Posted Friday, January 06, 2012

Did you receive an email from a 'friend' asking for money?
Check out this Video on YouTube.com

If they would use 1USA.Com for their email account instead, they probably wouldn't haven't fallen victim to scams in the first place.

How to spot an Email Hoax - Posted Friday, January 06, 2012

On AOL, Aim.com, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Web.de and others...
you need to be more careful that you don't respond to a hoax.

If you are using an email account hosted at 1USA.Com, and you have the setting turned on to Verify Senders, then you are probably not receiving any hoaxes in your mailbox.
For more info about getting a better-protected email account, check out 1USA.

Craig's List and other public websites - Posted Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Anytime you enter your email address onto websites like Craig's List and others... you WILL begin to receive scams... forever.
Once they get your email address, it's all over.
Some Hotmail customers receive 200-1,000 emails per day due to this mistake.
The solution:  Contact the 1USA Webmasters to create a temporary Email Alias for you.  Use the Alias until the items are sold, then we can delete the alias.
This is a free service to 1USA customers.

Putting your email address in the To line - Posted Monday, November 28, 2011

 Anchor: "to-address"
For some reason, people like to make their emails look like spams.  They will put their own email address in the From line and in the To line, then send a blind copy to everyone on a list.   This is exactly what Spammers do.

Instead, the people should put all email addresses in the To line.
Reason:  As of 2010-11, the anti-virus software will automatically put emails not addressed to you into a "spam folder".  You might not ever see those emails.

As a result, 1USA now notifies the senders of this potential problem by returning a "To-Address is required.  Need a 1USA email address in the TO LINE in order to accept."

Another reason:  If an email is not To you... then is it important?
Probably not.

So if someone has a Mailing List for an important reason, they will use Mailing List Software that sends out individual emails one at a time.
Reason:  If their email bounces, they can manage their list better.

1USA customers may have access to our 1USA Mailing List Server... and can manage Mailing Lists via the Webmail interface... so that you don't need to purchase $100 mailing list software.

Email Petitions - Posted Friday, December 11, 2009

1,000 names on an email is not a Petition.
An email that goes around collecting real or faked names is not a petition.  Petitions need to be SIGNED ... only by American citizens over the age of 18.
Here's what Snopes.com has to say about E-Petitions  http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp
(Make sure your pop-up blocker is turned on before visiting the page.)
If the petition is available at Voting Stations, it can be signed while you go to vote.  Some petitions may be available at your Congressman's office.
All REAL petitions require SIGNATURES.

Email Etiquette - Posted Friday, December 11, 2009

Email Etiquette has been around since the beginning of the internet.
Please
read the article and mention it to your friends if they are not following proper etiquette.

Don't use Email for time-critical reminders - Posted Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Don't use Email for time-critical messages.
If your group has a meeting tonight and you are sending out a meeting reminder..;.
send out your reminder a day or two in advance of the meeting; not 2 hrs before the meeting...
because most people are busy and they don't sit at the computer... and they probably won't receive your email until after the meeting date. Some people only sit down at a computer and read their emails every few days, while others only read their emails once a week.

Be considerate of those using Dialup connections [large emails] - Posted Wednesday, March 25, 2009

One of the worst things about Email is... when a little old lady "who doesn't know anything about computers"  gets a CableModem connection... then starts sending 10 MB movies as file attachments to all her friends who are still using a dialup connection.   Aarrgghh!!

Back in 2004, BarryZ mentioned that 40% of America is on any kind of connection that does 256k or faster.... and in 2010, one of President Obama's Publicity people mentioned that they are spending 113 Billion dollars to go from 60% to 73% broadband coverage in America.
That in itself tells you how many people are still using a Dialup connection.

Here at 1USA, we have a feature that can hold those large emails off to the side, so that if you feel like it, you can login to Webmail and view them later.
If you would like this feature turned on, please notify the 1USA Webmasters.

Here at 1USA, we also have a feature that can periodically remind your friends to not send you emails with large attachments.
If you would like this feature turned on, please notify the 1USA Webmasters.

Retrieving large emails on a Dialup connection generally takes 15 minutes per megabyte ... so a 9MB movie clip will take you 9 x 15 minutes to retrieve.
Our MegaSpeed service can cut that time down by two-thirds, but it still is a long time just to receive one email.

Don't be afraid to tell those people to be considerate!
What to say to them:
  1.   "I don't pay attention to the movie clip jokes that you have been sending me... so you can now stop sending them to me.  Take me off that mailing list."

  2.  "I am on a Dialup connection because the price is less than a Broadband connection.  If you would like me to receive the large file attachments that you are sending now that you have a broadband connection, please consider paying the difference for me so that I can read the large things that you are sending.  Please call my ISP, 1USA.Com, and they can bill you the difference.
