Scams from Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and AOL still abound. - Thursday, January 28, 2010
Scams from Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and AOL still abound.
So many...  that when sending emails TO yahoo, their mail servers are so busy handling the scams that our emails TO legitimate yahoo customers is being delayed.
1USA is set to attempt delivery of outbound emails for up to 8 hours.  Sometimes emails to Yahoo recipients is delayed on the first attempt.  If you receive no further Delay notices, then the email was delivered to Yahoo on the 2nd or 3rd attempt.
If the 4th attempt fails, then the 1USA mail server will notify you a 2nd time.
ONLY if an email fails delivery after 8 attempts do you receive a Failure notice.
Know the difference between a Delayed notice and a Failure notice.

There are new scams arriving from Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and AOL (all of the 'free' email services) that pretends to be a female in love with you... and you are to click on a link.
The emails are only 2 or 3 lines long and have a link to an INFECTED WEBSITE.
The www address of the infected websites change daily.
If you are inquisitive, your computer will get infected.  It's that simple.
Please do not click on links in emails from people you don't know.

The common denominator about all of these scams is that they are sent To "undisclosed recipient".
So... please tell your friends who use the 'free' email services...  that 1USA will no longer accept emails from the 'free' email services that are sent to "undisclosed recipients'.
If a sender doesn't put your name into the To line when they build an email, it's usually junk that you have seen only 6 times in the past 5 years anyway.
No major loss... but a big step ahead for the safety of your computer.

WARNING: 2010 Census Cautions from the Better Business Bureau - Thursday, January 21, 2010

Be Cautious About Giving Info to Census Workers

With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the e country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.

The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following advice:

** If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device (GPS....why?), a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions.  However, you should never invite anyone you don't know into your home.

** Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information.  Do not give your Social Security number, credit card or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need it for the U.S. Census. REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR  ADDRESS.

While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information, such as a salary range, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION.  The Census Bureau will not ask for Social Security, bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees solicit donations..  Any one asking for that information is NOT with the Census Bureau.

AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK WITH ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) ON GATHERING THIS INFORMATION
.  No Acorn worker should approach you saying he/she is with the Census Bureau.

Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in person at home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by Email, so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating the Census.

Never click on a link or open any attachments in an Email that  are supposedly from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Mass web infections spike to 6 million pages - Thursday, October 29, 2009

Being careful which websites you surf, i.e. FaceBook, MySpace, MyLife, etc. no longer applies.  "Being Careful" simply is not good enough.  Even "clean" websites may display "infected" advertisements.

An estimated 5.8 million pages belonging to 640,000 websites were infected with code designed to launch malware attacks on visitors, according to a report released Tuesday.
The Malware is mostly software that wants you to divulge credit card information or would lead to cleaning out your bank accounts.
Some will say "your computer is infected, buy this"... while other types are invisible and run in the background.
The numbers, compiled over the third quarter by security firm Dasient, represent a significant jump in number of legitimate websites that have been compromised.
Story here...

There is a simple solution!  How to protect your computer from all these malwares.

Aha! My suspiciion is confirmed. - Sunday, October 04, 2009

In the 1USA Newsletter email sent to 1USA customers on 9/29/2009, BarryZ was "right on" with the recommendation to install software that would isolate web surfing in 'sandbox memory' and prevent changes to your computer.

The latest figures from the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) have hinted that Fake antivirus programs are multiplying at such a rate they could start to overwhelm the detection capabilities of signature-based scanners.

Rogue or bogus programs passing themselves off as real antivirus software have been one of the malware themes of 2009, but the APWG's numbers for the first half of the year show that the organization's members detected 485,000 samples, more than five times the total for the whole of 2008.

We've had to put a filter on CareerBuilder.Com - Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Emails are arriving from other ISPs pretending to be from CareerBuilder.com
The emails try to get you to click on a link in the email... thereby infecting your computer.
1USA has had to put a filter on emails arriving from CareerBuilder.Com... so that emails arriving from only their authorized mail servers will be accepted.
If you have any questions, please contact the 1USA Webmasters.

Reasons why the sending server needs to match the From-Address - Monday, March 02, 2009

Here is an example of why a sender's From-Address might be rejected at 1USA.
Reason:  Because it is arriving from the wrong server.
In this case, the server is a hacked PHP script on some website.
Look at all the different (faked) From-Addresses that are arriving from the server at php.telenet.ge

Since the emails are not legit, they are probably selling something or maybe trying to deliver a virus.
You are protected here with your @1usa.com email account.

Yahoo Groups - Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Domains can protect their email addresses using Sender Policy Framework (SPF).  Yahoo Groups doesn't use the SPF worldwide standard, they have their own Domain Keys verification system.

Consequently, when a AOL customer is a member of a Yahoo Group, and the email goes out, Yahoo (in their infinite wisdom) will send out the email using the AOL customer's email address... which violates the AOL trademark and AOL's SPF Policy.  Recipients of such messages are instructed by AOL to REJECT such messages that do not originate from an authorized AOL mail server.

To get around this problem, tell the 1USA Webmasters that you are a member of a  Yahoo Group, and an over-ride can be put in place so that you will receive the emails from that Yahoo Group.

For more info about SPF, visit http://www.1usa.com/spf.html

No problem.

If you are reading the pages on this website... and you like what you see... but only have a @AOL, @NetZero, @Hotmail (etc.) email address, you can sign up with 1USA and retrieve ALL your emails in one safe place:

 - You can keep your other less-secure Email Address for any length of time.  Our 1USA Mail Servers can 'pull' emails from any other server.
Our 1USA server will 'import' your other emails and run them through our four different anti-virus & anti-malware scanners - where you can be pretty sure that the 'nasties' don't get into your In-Box.
To start, simply
